Your best option is to carry on with your contract and utilise TuGo for your allowances (wifi only) or if in Europe use O2 Travel.

No you cannot without either paying off the contract or if on refresh pay off the phone plan and then phone O2 on 202 to move onto a payg account.

You would need a payg sim as they hold different info to contract ones. Any O2 shop have them and can transfer your number to the SIM card.

You do have alternatives such as the travel option or use Tugo on wifi.

Or let a family member or someone trusted to use the SIM card and change the payments to their bank account. Be aware you will still be accountable for the account and payments.

To add then you can pick up a payg SIM card and let everyone know your new number or have the phone unlocked to all networks which is free to contract customers and use a local SIM card. It would be best to do some homework about heir networks.

Unlock form https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset%20Unlocking%20Form

I have an unlocked phone and use it with a local simcard in Thailand for around 6 months of the year. I have TuGo installed so I'm able to use my allowances over wifi and get all messages and calls as normal whisy also getting the benefits of a local simcard.
