I have just finished conversation online chat . My contract is up in 9 days time. I have found better deal with other supplier and wish to cancel after contract is up. As i understand it you have to give 30 days notice to cancel so after this period I will be well out of contract but the guy online said I would still have to pay £8 because i have cancelled early and would have to wait until contract has ended before I give 30 days notice . How is this right ?

You will if you give notice now as you are giving 9 days plus 30 days notice (the notice period runs in billing cycles) so give notice on your bill date and get a pac, when you use pac it will cancel o2 account and you will be billed for the last 30 days which you can then claim back as the phone hasn't been used (quirk of the system).
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
