WiFi/4G Calling on Pixel 2/OnePlus 5T?

Anonymous
Not applicable

Are O2 WiFi Calling and 4G Calling supported on the Google Pixel 2 and OnePlus 5T?

According to the page at https://www.o2.co.uk/connectivity/wifi-and-4g-calling -

  • "Many" of your devices are supported.
  • The pop-up dialogue box only cites handsets from Apple, Samsung and Sony as compatible.
  • Text says: "*For Android devices, Wifi and 4G Calling will only work on devices using O2 firmware. To learn more and check if your device is compatible click here. The device firmware is essentially the software that makes your device turn on and run. Sometimes there are different version of firmware for the same device."
  • Page at https://www.o2.co.uk/business/support/network-support/wifi-and-4g-calling echos this.

However, I just chatted with an O2 online representative to told me: "It will work. Don'y worry about this." Given a) what I observed in O2's online documentation and b) the brusk nature of this interaction, I am inclined to wonder whether it was simply salesmanship.

What is the real story?

Does O2 give these devices with own firmware and locked? One would expect them, of all devices, to be clean.

Thank-you.

It could be happening but as you know, O2 never tell us until it's happened.....

@MI5. It baffles me the slow progress of non O2 bough handsets, now you’d think they’d want as many people off 3G as possible for spectrum refarming and a little U900 refarming to 4G like Vodafone has done in London. O2 have no excuses now with the amount of high capacity spectrum they won.
