Where has the Data Gone?

Anonymous

Have put up with slow data for years, but somehow it has managed to get worse. On 2G I cannot even open a simple text webpage. Customer support has been non existent - done the usual SIM clean. This is in the North - Keswick ( Edge apparently but still no data) , Co Durham too. The best a shop could offer was ring up and hope that someone would go to tech support...

Anyone else in the same boat?
Is O2 having real data problems?

I wouldn't go by that. The whole of Lancaster and morecambe is a rubbish signal on O2 and it says it is "normal". You can't even make a basic phone call without it cutting off. I know because I am from Chester and the signal there is great. When my friends and family come to visit, they can't get a signal either.

Hi,

Have you checked the masts in your area to see if any issues exist.

http://status.o2.co.uk

I agree 2g is next to useless.

What phone are you using ?

Download speedtest.net app and run it then post the results here.

{Turn wifi off on your phone before running it}

My Speedtest.net results are :

Ping 112

Download 6.04

Upload 2.31

which are pretty good.

Are other people in your area having issues ?

I ask as your phone could have failed.

Thanks

In order - yes checked the O2 website - no issues apparently

The data is so bad that speedtest just times out with a connectivity issue

( 5 bars of 2G)

Works on the rare occasion that I find a 3G signal

Phone is an iPhone 4S

Which works really well, but not in this part of the UK!

Customer Services do not seem to understand / care about the problem with one advisor suggesting a dongle on another network....

The shop were equally useless suggesting the helpline

Come on O2!

And the last question.

So neighbours or friends have the same connection issues.

Or could it be the iPhone.

Hey Guys,

Before I chose the 02 Network I obtained theirs and several of the other Networks Sim cards on payg and tried them out where I resided and worked in order to choose the stongest network.

Obviously this does not cover issues such as downed masts and upgrade work.

Makes sense before signing on the dotted line and paying out a monthly fee.

Thanks all, think I am just stuck with a naff network for data until my contract expires. Was hoping for 3G. 900, but not at a cell near me. Suspect that the network has not been upgraded for years, and additional smartphones have just filled it to capacity...

Registered:

The network is constantly being upgraded, O2 spend over £1.25 million a day on that.

They have also committed to 98% coverage of the UK by 2015 for 2G, 3G and 4G:
