What happens if you don't want to upgrade?

Hi, I am due for an upgrade in September. I am happy with my device and don`t want a new one. I am now paying £49 a month. As far as I understand the bill doesn't go down after the contract ends. But then a friend told me that it can be reduced by 25% afterwards which I am also not ok with. I bought my device on October 1st 2017 so not sure if the last payment is on September 1st or October 1st?

I realised that I can go from pay monthly to sim only tariff which will be a lot cheaper (about £20 a month for 15GB data plan). My question is in terms of dates when do I have to do that so I won`t be billed another £49? Also do I order a new sim online and then sort it out with CS over the phone? If I`m not wrong I do get to keep my number as I`m staying with O2.

Hope it all makes sence. Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi @Boris

One your device is paid for you will continue paying for the airtime only. (Unless you give 30 days notice to discontinue airtime).

Your best bet is to take out a sim only contract on the phone. They are available on 30 day or 12 month contracts.

https://www.o2.co.uk/shop/sim-cards/sim-only-deals#deviceType=phone&contractLength=P12M

You would need to contact customer services at the end of August as you are due to upgrade in September. Leave everything to them to transfer your account to sim only https://www.o2.co.uk/contactus

Hope that helps and welcome to the forum Welcome

@Boris If you login to your MyO2 http://www.o2.co.uk/myo2 it will tell you when you can upgrade. As you are staying with O2 and not essentially changing anything except your tariff, you need to choose your sim only plan and then call customer service on 202 or go in store and they will deal with the changeover for you. You will retain the same sim card and number etc, everything will be changed on the O2 system. You are best to do this 2 or 3 days before your upgrade date to allow time for the system to update.

Your billing date will also remain the same.
