Virgin Media / O2 customer -Cancelling VM, what happens to O2 contract?

Hello,

18 months ago I took out a Virgin media contract that included a mobile sim from O2.

My VM contract is coming to an end and their renewal price isn't competitive, so I've started the cancellation process with them.

I was told by VM that my O2 contract is completely separate and that I need to cancel or negotiate with O2 direct.

I've just got off the phone with O2 and was told my contact ends on the 19th Jan and my services will stop then... is this really right or will it just carry on at a rolling basis? I am concerned it'll cease as advised and I'll lose my mobile number, so I requested a PAC code in case I need to jump the O2 ship for someone else.

Is this normal for how the VM/O2 contracts work? Will my contract simply be killed off on the 19th? What happens if VM call me back with a better deal that again includes an O2 sim? -I don't want to start something new with O2 now in case that happens but I don't want to be left without a deal either.

Any advice from current or past VM/O2 customers who have been through this before would be much appreciated, thank you

@exVMCustomer

Your contract should continue as a rolling contract, as it is just your minimum term that will come to an end, if you have requested a PAC then once it is used then your contract with o2 will end..

And to be honest going on some reports from Reddit, people aren't always getting calls back  from retentions and the cancellation process is going to the end, without a call.

Thank you for the info @madasaf1sh.

Virgin did call me back the following day and was able to better the new customer deal which I ended up taking. They explained that the VM and O2 contracts are completely separated and that I'd need to negotiate with O2 if I wanted to do anything with my mobile contract. I have since received my O2 PAC code and will be moving mobile providers as soon as my new sim arrives.

Thanks again.

I had an iPhone 12 through Virgin Mobile and got an O2 sim, when Volt happened. A few weeks ago I looked at My O2 app and saw that I could upgrade as there was 0 balance on my contract. I bought a new phone yesterday at Apple, traded in my existing phone and transferred my existing sim. I was about to cancel my direct debit to Virgin Mobile in case they attempted to take another handset payment but thought I’d better inform them. They told me I still had a balance of £180 so I told them that My O2 told me I had 0 balance, so they transferred me to O2 and they told me as far as they are concerned, there is no outstanding handset balance on my account and my airtime plan will continue as a monthly rolling contract.
I’m now very confused!

@pjamesesq O2 have no access to your handset payments which are handled by Virgin alone

O2 can only tell you what is owing on the airtime element

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

Expect problems when Virginmedia try the direct debit payment this month

You will jneed to keep making the monthly payments to them and if you don't make a manual payment they could put your account into default and demand the full £180 owing
