VAT on charitable donation

I’ve been charged vat on a £10 charitable donation I made to comic relief using my phone to do it. Why ?

We're just customers like you but it sounds as if you need someone to access your account which can't be done from here.

Edited to add : Charitable donations fall out of the scope of vat. You should not have been charged
