I am being charged VAT on top of my monthly contract price. I was never made aware that there would be added VAT. I thought that VAT could only be added to business contracts?
Thanks

@JNB12

VAT has to be added by law to all contracts.

The difference is that consumer contracts are advertised including vat whereas business ones exclude the vat.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Thanks for the response. Contract was sold to me at £35 a month but VAT is now being added to that each month. Should that only happen on a business contract or is that right?

Yes, only on business.
Where did you get the contract from?
It is known for cold calls claiming to be from O2 putting people on business contracts unknown to the customer.

All consumer contracts should be quoted at time of offer with VAT included, @JNB12, by EU directive.

Only changes should be the annual RPI price rise in April, and any additional bolt-ons or out-of-tariff purchases made on the phone.

This is all clearly shown in the Billing section of MyO2 for Consumer contracts.

It sounds more and more like a business contract then.

Thanks for this. Do you know how I find out whether it’s a business or personal contract before I contact O2?

You could try signing in to the Business version of MyO2 website, info here, @JNB12, especially as your normal MyO2 is not showing you a new contract pdf or upgrade info:
