Using esim instead of sim card

I want to use a esim for my pay monthly number to free up the sim slot for a french sim, does anyone know if I can get an esim and transfer my number to it and if so how to order etc.

no help from o2 as email and chat and telephone help line closed!

You need to contact O2 for an eSim pack.
All numbers are in this guide Guide: Coronavirus Community Help and Support 
When you call, you will be asked for the reason you are calling.
Stay silent for 15 seconds and you will be taken to the keypad options.
Press 2 for Everything Else
Press 5 for More Options
Press 7 for Anything Else which will put you though to someone.
You can also try saying "Upgrade" or "Fraud" to be connected to an advisor.
8.00am is the best time to call if you can.

Once received, you just do a sim swap and follow the instructions to scan the QR code Guide: Sim Swap: a mini guide 2017 update
