I want to use my UK O2 mobile in Egypt. Query 1: I can't find Egypt on the lists of Europe Zone, Inclusive Zone or O2 Travel Bolt Ons. Am I right in assuming that therefore I will be able to use it, but that calls will be charged at standard roaming rates? Query 2: If I use wi-fi calling, for instance in a hotel, how will those calls be charged? Thanks for any help you can give me. Guy

@Guy_Trillow There is no bolt-on for Egypt. It's very expensive. Better to get a local sim if you're going to be there for any length of time. Guide: Roaming MegaGuide

@Guy_Trillow

You cannot use O2 wifi calling when abroad either.

To utilise wifi calling you will need to use a voip app, such as WhatsApp or Messenger etc.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Thx very much for your help, both of you. Have just joined community and also found other posts v helpful. Somewhere somebody mentioned turning off voice mail (as it counts as receiving a call). Send 1760 to turn it off, and 1750 to turn it back on. Two msgs aimed at O2: 1) from the info O2 offer on their website I found it difficult/impossible to get a complete and convincing answer to my questions. Not good. And voice recognition on 202 is useless with issues such as these. 2) why no bolt on for Egypt?.. Vodafone offer one so not impossible

@Guy_Trillow Each network negotiates its own roaming agreements. You'd have to take up your query with O2 customer service, which, to be honest, would probably be a wasted effort.

I got told by an O2 rep that if I downloaded the O2 Travel bolt on I would only get charged £6 a day to use my monthly allowance but the bolt on was already on my phone but downloaded again just to make sure I took my phone off airplane mode and used my phone but it was a big mistake I was mislead with the information and I was charged £202.29 for 15 minutes including all other charges
