Why can I get a better deal with O2 through a non-affiliated company (Carphone Warehouse; Phones 4U etc) than I can as an existing customer wishing to upgrade with O2?

Makes no sense from a customer service perspective.

What suits one customer doesn't suit another. If you aren't someone who wants to upgrade every time a new model comes out, that's every year, then yes, it makes sense to go with the best possible deal that suits your needs and at a cost you are comfortable with, happy in the knowledge you have saved x number of pounds by upgrading through an independent.

Sadly it's a fact of life that you can buy things cheaper from sources other than the manufacturer or main supplier. And long may we have that choice....
