I am planning on upgrading my phone today but I only have so much in the bank, when it comes to upgrading I know you have to pay the Upfront Cost (say £19.99) today, do you also need to pay the first Monthly Cost (for example £56) as well today?  Or does that come off when your bill usually would come off?

You just pay the upfront costs today.

For an upgrade, your bill date will remain the same and you will pay the additional costs pro rata on your next bill.
