Upgrading from a 12 month Sim Only

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi there,

I want to ask how o2 upgrades work, because everytime you ask someone at o2 you get different answers.  I took out a 12 Month Sim Only deal, to which I am happy with just now.  I asked what happens when I upgrade from my sim only, do I get credit checked again if I go for a full device and airtime contract or do they base the decision on your payment history with them? I am asking because I would like to upgrade to the new iphone that will come out this year. Thank you

We're all sticking with our first answers.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Hi everyone, I thank you all for your answers it's clear to me that I won't be Credit checked, most mobile companies normally do only one credit check and then use payment history with the company to grant upgrade thinking of when I was with EE if I wanted to upgrade I would have to pay three more bills. I called o2 customer service and the woman I spoke to said I can upgrade to refresh on the 17th of April if I wish but I wouldn't be able to do it online. However when I spoke to someone on the online chat they said it would be 6 months. Anyway I did some research online and apparently companies are only ever allowed to credit check their customer once as to many can harm your credit rating, special circumstances where they think fraud is taking place then a credit check is conducted. I've nothing to worry about as my bill will be paid on time every month.

Well like promised, I would come back and let you know how I got on. Like o2 said, I would be able to upgrade online when the option became available, which it did before it only let me upgrade to another sim only contract and but o2 said I would be able to upgrade to o2 refresh on the 17th of April which I have done today without doing another credit check.
