Are you sure you upgraded? Some people in error, take out a new contract.
Alternatively you may have had the remainder of your contract to pay.

You will have an additional month/part of month to pay on your old contract @JoshuaOkorom
It's all date dependent. ie when you upgraded and when your old contract bill is due.
My grandson upgraded on May 25th. His payment date was June 8th. His old contract payment was taken out of the bank in June. It will be the sim only price in July.
