Upgraded really really early

Anonymous

Hi, I'm new so sorry if I'm repeating something.

I've just been browsing myO2 account to see when I could upgrade my phone and the upgrade online link said I was able to upgrade now, but my contracts not due for renewal till June 13.

I was curious how far I could go before I was told I couldn't really upgrade now, but I've ended up ordering the samsung galaxy s3, same tariff, one off price 99.99, to be delivered on Thursday to my local o2 shop. I have receive the text confirmation, but not the email.

This must be an error?

There was no mention of paying off my current contract, which would be over 200 quid. And I know I can cancel the order up to 7days after delivery, but I was wondering if this has happened to anyone? Or can explained whats happened? Is it a glitch on the website?

I know I shouldn't have confirmed the order, I was seeing where the wave would take me.

Holly

What tariff are you on? A 12 month Simplicity will allow you to upgrade now. If not a Simplicity tariff, I would contact customer service for an explanation.

Yes it's definitely an error. I'm sure customer service will sort it out for you.

I would however check your bank account before you ring them.

Good luck.

I did make sure to add the one off price to my next bill so I wasn't paying anything up front, but I am worried o2 will end up putting it on my next bill. It's happened a couple of times when they have added money onto my bill for phantom phone repairs. Hopefully everything will be sorted tomorrow.

Thanks again for the input.

I've been in contact with an adviser through the chat live and apparently I was able to upgrade so early. They said the system has allowed me to.

The only way I can think I might have been able to do this is with the 3 months early upgrade (because myo2 says I can do this on my new contract, I'm assume I was able to do this on my old contract) plus the GET A NEW PHONE 6months early on the phone itself.... I'm still not a 100% sure.

There could be an early cancellation fee that was not mention, I will only find out when my next bill comes. I'm a bit annoyed at this as. The adviser says I should have contacted someone when I was upgraded to see if there was a charge, but during the process at no time I was told I should contact anyone to find out. I thought upgrading online meant it cut out the middle man.

I honestly thought if there was going to be a fee it would have come up during the process to say I cant upgrade unless you pay off x amount of months off. Sorry if I'm being a bit dense, I normally just wait until the end of my contract and there's not much hassle.

Hope you get it sorted but it's a harsh lesson just to see how far the system would let you go.
