Solved: Upgraded phone

I'm trying to set up my upgraded phone . I've trasnfered all data and apps successfully can use e mail and whatsapp but can't use the phone to make or receive calls and can't send or receive sms texts . Do I need to remove my old phone, in settings, from the network before the new phone will work , please ?
