You can then give the new phone to your daughter who can use any sim card from any network

Not as far as I am aware. Upgrades are for monthly contracts. If you want your daughter to have a phone and your existing one is paid for, why don't you take the upgrade and let her have your old phone?
PAYG phones are bought outright, not with monthy repayments.
