If upgrading through O2 you don't need to call anyone.
Simply do it through My O2 as I did two weeks ago.

0800 587 4005 is the best number to call.

Simple answer is that O2 have a network to support and resellers don't.
O2 also pay a commission to resellers which they can pass on to customers.
You don't get the direct perks though unless you buy from O2 but ultimately, the choice is yours as O2 get a sale either way.
