If it is an upgrade and not a new contract then so long as the sim card fits there is not reason why not.
If it is a new contract then yes there would be a new number.
When did you order and when did you choose to get it delivered? Parcel delivery companies nornally take 12-24 hours to acknowledge a parcel so might be a while. Try tomorrow perhaps.
