Once you pay the device plan you can choose to continue to pay just the airtime or cancel it completely Guide: How does O2 Refresh work?

You can upgrade through your MyO2 http://www.o2.co.uk/myo2 which will also add any money owed at the final checkout stage and clear your old contract.
