Upgrade anytime with 12 month Simplicity

I was told yesterday when I spoke to upgrades on the phone that I could upgrade anytime from a 12 month Simplicity tariff as long as it was with O2. However I just got an email that says I can only upgrade one month early. Anyone know which is correct?

hi guys,

I was on a 12 month 02 simplicity and managed to upgrade early (phoned customer services), it didn't incur any fee and I was able to get a good deal. I upgraded because my phone broke, so needed a 24 month contract which included a phone. I only took out the new 12 month simplicity in july 2012 and have upgraded today, so you can do it at any time as long as you stick to 02, and as someone else said don't go through phones4u or carphonewarehouse as you will have to pay for your existing simplicity to be cancelled.

Hope that helps

p.s when upgraded I always advise to ring up rather than do it online as they tend to have better deals for you

That's not right, there shouldn't be any reason why customers are being told they cannot upgrade when they are on the 12 month sim only as you have rightly said this is one of the incentives the re-contract team are able to offer for customers who perhaps are not ready to upgrade to a new phone when their contract ends, but want to save money on their bills, knowing that they will upgrade with O2 within the next year.

Thanks for raising this Perksie, I will feed it back. Do you have any links to the posts? I'm interested to know what the customers are being advised and the reason behind it?

Cheers perksie, that's very helpful. Those threads seem to be a bit older, so if anyone is currently experiencing similar problems, please drop me a private message with your mobile phone number

Thanks Perksie.

From the examples you have provided it seems there are crossed wires with the webchat team and how they are advising customers so I will raise this.

Also, as Leonard as said above, one of the examples is from 2010, the promotion I have referred to and clarified in this post, was only offered by the recontract team from around June 2011, so any 12 month sim only contracts taken out prior to this won't have been eligible for the 'upgrade with O2 anytime' incentive.

Is this still an on-going deal for anyone taking out a 12 month Simplicity contract miss cahill?

Yes, it is still ongoing at the moment.

The only technicality that I can think of that may prevent a customer from upgrading to a phone contract with O2 from the 12 month sim only contract, is if the customer has not passed the credit check required to get a phone contract.

But the good news is that even if this is the case, after 6 months clear billing, O2 will then be able to upgrade the account to a phone contract, as the customer has been able to demonstrate that they are able to keep up repayments over a 6 months period.
