Upgrade Time - New Contract Instead?

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi all.

It's time for my bi-yearly upgrade again as my contract nears its end. However, for some reason everywhere I look has better deals on offer for new customers than those available to people upgrading.

With this in mind, is there anything to stop me from ending my current contract and opening a new one (still with O2)? Would it be possible to retain my existing number in this instance (or would I need to transfer it via a third party, eg PAYG sim on another network as an intermediary)?

Seems bizarre to me that an existing customer has to pay an extra £50 as well as an extra £5/month for the same contract & phone. Didn't upgrade offers used to be about rewarding loyalty?

If you are staying with O2 but upgrading through an independent such as CPW then you need to make it clear that you are upgrading. That should transfer the number and end your present contract automatically.

However if you take out a completely new contract again with O2 then you need to give 30 days notice to end the present contract and fill in the transfer number form online.

Of course you can do it by transferring your number to P&G and then on to a new contract but it's time consuming and not really necessary.

You can also open a new account and ask 02 to move the number directly, and cancel your existing one.

If you take the new contract from CPW you can port your number across immediately by calling CS on 202.
Once the number is ported your old contract ends and a final bill is generated.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
