O2 keep texting me to say they are providing me with 50mg of data for which they will deduct £1 from my balance. I am paying for something I don't want as I never use data so how do I stop them doing this?

No need to turn 3g off as that is used for voice only mobile data needs disabling to stop data charges 3g voice is better quality than 2g voice.

Just my Personnel choice Adam.
I opt to turn both off.
OP can decide which is best for them.
But not necessary and may affect voice calls.
It may be your personal choice but I would never turn 3g off to avoid data charges

A network engineer would tell you calls can be made easily on both 2G and 3G networks with no real noticeable differences except that in 3G network video calls can also be made.
