Unlocking Pay & Go Phone From Abroad

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello everyone,

I bought a Sony Xperia LT30p (Pay & Go) from an O2 showroom two years ago when I came to the UK to study. Now I've finished my studies and just returned to my country, but I completely forgot to unlock my phone before leaving the UK (my bad). So obviously my local SIM does not work as the phone is still locked to 02 network. Please advice on what I should do to unlcok my phone as I really need to use it locally for the time being and I don't think I'll be coming back to the UK anytime soon.

Thanks,

Anirudh

Hi

Link https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset%20Unlocking%...

It will cost £15

When you get the e mail so say it's unlocked then insert a non O2 sim card and follow the instructions within the e mail.

You could try the unlock for here:

https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset%20Unlocking%20Form

Also try live chat, link in my signature.
You will need £15 credit on the phone but I think as you are no longer a UK resident you are going to need the help of a local mobile unlock service.

Thank you for your reply Jonsie,

So If I'm abroad, does it mean I can no longer request for an unlock from o2? My balance is quite low at the moment but I can request my friends back in England to recharge my account on my behalf and repay them later. Would It work then?

Hi,

As long as your still active on the o2 network and have used the sim card in the last 6 months, have £15 on your account as Payg Credit then fill out the form, wait for the return e mail with instrcutions and insert your non o2 sim card to complete the process.

Yes it should be fine if your friend can top up for you and there is recent UK usage on the phone. Good luck and let us know how you get on.:smileyhappy:
