Unlocking O2 PAYG using contract SIM

Anonymous
Not applicable

I have an old O2 PAYG phone that I would like to unlock without paying the £15 unlock charge.

Since I also have an O2 contract phone, could I swap the SIMs over and get the old PAYG phone unlocked for free?

It should work to allow you to unlock the phone but your message centre will be screwed up so texts may not work without changing the message centre number.
Calls should work fine.
You need to use the sim for a day or two until your My O2 updates with the different phone.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

As far as I know Contract sims don't work in a PAYG phone as they are set up differently..

If they did...they would still class it as a PAYG sim when you tried to unlock (and vice versa)?
