For the first time ever I have been charged by O2 for WhatsApp calls to the USA. I want to speak to someone about it at O2 but there is no option to speak to a human.

You need to contact Payment Management
You can reach the Payment Management team on 0800 902 0217 or 0800 032 5302
The opening times are:
Monday to Friday – 8am to 8pm
Saturday – 8am to 6pm
Sunday – 9am to 6pm

Be interesting how they have charged you. WhatsApp to WhatsApp calls go via data and O2 have no idea of the destination.
Data charges could apply in some rare circumstances but again they would have no idea of the destination or number called.
I suspect something went wrong your end.

Did you by any chance select call phone number and then type a phone number in the calls option and then select the use carrier to call the number as that is the only way it will use o2 to make a call.. and you will be charged
