Solved: UNLOCKING MY PHONE

I currently have a new phone and sim on 02 refresh. I am using the sim with my old phone and my son is using the new phone- I need to unlock the new phone and 02 have said I need to put the sim in the phone as you need to associate the phone with the sim before they can unlock it, which is fine - My question is do I just put the sim in the phone and make a call on it to achieve this or do I need to leave the sim in until the phone has been unlocked? Any insight would be appreciated.

@TAC73 all o2 phones are now unlocked anyway but the process to unlock is in the help here https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/How-to-Guides/Unlocking-an-O2-phone-to-use-a-different-SIM-card/ba-p/1...

Reading @TAC73 post again...it's a pity CS failed to inform them that the new phone was unlocked!!

So any sim could actually be put in the device....
