Transferring number

I've changed my mobile provider from 3 to O2 yesterday. And I wanted to keep my old number . So I asked for O2 yesterday around 5:30pm. I was told it takes 24 hours. But I still can't send and recieve any calls and texts! Sometimes I can get texts from O2, but not from my friends. What do I have to do????!!!!

If it's an android phone, try dialing *#*#4636#*#* . This brings up a troubleshooting/statistics menu page. Select Phone information and at the bottom there should be an SMSC section. See if that is populated, if not try to click refresh.
In theory if you can see a number there, you are able to send sms messages.

Kudos to jonsie for the number and advice.
