Good morning @Angie82.
Requesting your PAC will effectively end your contract with O2 giving the requisite 30 days notice. O2 will then raise an invoice covering the fees due on the remainder of your contract.

Hi @Angie82
If you want to keep your existing contract running for your son then you should do nothing immediately. Requesting your PAC will end that contract.
Your best bet is to take out the new contract and ask to keep your number via this route

You would probably need to involve customer services... as your son, using your old contract, will need a new sim/phone number for the account you are leaving in place for him.https://www.o2.co.uk/contactus

This will still end the old contract so there will be nothing left for anyone else to use.
The only way you can maintain both contracts is to use the new number that comes with the new contract and leave the old number attached to the old contract.

Yes I'm aware there will be a new sim come with the new contract and this is where I expected CS to get involved so they could swap the numbers, allowing the OP to keep the one she wants and leaving the new one on the old contract for her son.
This is a possibilty surely? Worked for my son when he gave his old phone/contract to his mate (with 3 months to run) and got himself a new phone but wanted to keep his number.

He was with O2 at the time. Now with EE.
Edited to add he has had the same number for over 20 years and needed it to remain the same for his work.
