Transfer information to new phone

In the process of buying a new apple phone will the information from my current sim be automatically transferred to my new phone and also retain the same number

You just put your old sim in the new phone, and your number will work, for contacts etc you will need to make sure they are backed up to iCloud and then login with your iCloud account to ge them down
