Transfer contract to family member and transfer own number away

Hey, everyone.

I took out a 24month contract in Jan-22.

I'll be taking up a contract via work soon (also with O2) and would like to transfer my current number to this new contract.

But I would like my current 24mth contract to continue but be transferred to a family member and their own number or for a new number to be generated for the contract (the former would be more ideal). I will continue paying for this so it's literally just a number change rather than a billing change or anything like that.

Is this possible? And how do I action this?

Thanks!

@YKHoVdaE

If you want to port the number to the new contract, you would need to cancel the contract, also bare in mind if its a business contract you will no longer own your number your employer will.

Porting cancels contracts hence its not possible.

Thanks for the response.

And what if I just wanted a new number generated for my current contract?

@YKHoVdaE You can do that but you would lose the number currently attached to it.

So if I understand this correctly, O2 can:

1) Generate a new number for my contract if I wanted one.

or

2) Can provide me a PAC to transfer my current number to a different provider/contract (which would attract an early repayment charge).

But they cannot do #1 and then #2? The logic doesn't quite compute...

@YKHoVdaE

It's because your account IS the phone number.

Scenario 1 - Sim is active. New number is generated and migrated to sim. New number replaces old number.

Scenario 2 - Sim is active. PAC is used and new provider pulls the number to their sim. O2 sim is dead as it has no number, hence no account to associate another number with.
