Thinking im leaving 02 - advice sought

Anonymous

Hi people,

After long hard deliberation I think im leaving 02. I have 2 contracts with them, but the new phones I want are much better deals with orange, cheaper contract/more minutes and data etc.

So I have 2 more payments left on my 2 contracts, 21st feb/march, but my new phone is released on 28th Feb. So I want to pay off my contracts on the 21st Feb to end the deal with 02, will I still have service until the 28th if I do that as I cant afford to be without a phone. Do I have to give 02 notice or me not renewing my contract?

And I need to keep the same numbers if possible for my business - im told to get a puk code or something, how will that work?

Im lost with all this and any advice is greatly appreciated slight_smile

If you want to leave, you need to ask O2 for your PAC code for both contracts to transfer and keep your numbers. Once you give the PAC codes to Orange and take out your new contracts with them, that will end your O2 contracts and O2 will send you a final bill for both.

Thankyou Bambino.

When should I contact 02 about leaving? My next bill is due on the 21st Feb and final bill due 21st march, so im guessing on my next bill day, giving them 30 days. And will I still have service on my 02 mobile until orange take over the number.

My new handset is released on the 28th Feb.

Cheers once again

You should contact O2 now regarding your 21st Feb bill, and 30 days before your March bill. You can call O2 free on 202 to ask for your PAC codes. You should have service on O2 until Orange take over your numbers. Once that happens it's down to Orange to provision your new phones. I presume you're looking to get the Sony Xperia Z. Looks a nice phone. Good luck with your new provider.

If you tell them you want to leave they will pass you to retentions. As you have two business contracts they may offer you an incentive to stay. Then again many people on the forum have commented that loyalty counts for nothing these days with O2, and new customers are offered the same deals as long time customers. I suppose it will be down to whoever you speak to. Best of luck whether you stay or go.

Theyre not business contracts as such - we use them for our dog breeding business, and the numbers on the business cards/kennel club stuff etc  and we have some pups due at the end of Feb, so we`ll need the numbers working.

Just a thought here, maybe crazy BUT - ive found the xperia with tesco, on 02 , £36 a month, £50 cashback tesco voucher, unlimited everything, which is much better than the £42 a month at tesco with limited data and no voucher - how would that work?

Well be they business contracts or not, they're still two contracts. If you call tomorrow and say you're thinking of leaving they will pass you on to retentions and you can try to make a deal with them. I couldn't tell you if you'll be successful or not.

I'm a bit confused by what you've said about the Tesco deal. When they say 'unlimited everything' with O2, I'm fairly certain that it doesn't mean unlimited data. O2 don't offer unlimited data on any contracts any more. In the last part of your description did you mean to write Tesco again, or did you mean Orange?

What kind of dogs do you breed?

Yes it wasnt unlimited data, I was rushing. Basicaly Tesco offer the exact same deal as O2s deal, but they give unlimited minutes compared to 02s 1200, and 1 gig data compared to 750meg with 02. Also they give you a £50 tesco giftcard, and its £36 a month compared to 02s £42. But its on the 02 network.

So how would I work that ? Pay off the current contract and start again with the tesco deal back on 02 - seems a bit silly, but £100 free cash and £200 savings on bills on the contract isnt to be sniffed at.
