I've had a text that for £5.54 extra a month I can get 5GB more data. Can you confirm if I select this tariff that my 50% discount will be added

If you upgrade your current tariff the discount will carry over.

You will get confirmation when you go through the ordering process.

For real confirmation you need to CALL O2 customer services and speak to them. Guide: How to find help & contact O2 (don't use live chat....)
