Switching to SIM only - confused about prices

I've finished my contract and would like to switch to SIM only.

If I Google O2 SIM only deals, I can see one I like (20GB, £8 per month, 12 months). If I try and upgrade through My O2 however, the same 20GB comes to £18.

What have I misunderstood about that first deal? I'm confused about the whole process of switching to SIM only to be honest so would be grateful for any help! I'd be content with a 5GB - 10GB per month as cheap as possible really.

Are you sure you are clicking on upgrade and not tariff change?

If so,  you should contact the sales team as they can help with that – message them on Social Media if that works best for you -on Facebook (https://o2uk.co/O2CFB) , Twitter (https://o2uk.co/O2CTW) or Instagram (https://o2uk.co/O2CIG)
Or you can call them on 0800 081 0255
Thanks

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

If you Googled it the result would probably be linked to USwitch who do very competitive tariffs on O2

You would have to take a contract with them and ask O2 to migrate your number to the new account

That would terminate your present contract automatically and produce a final invoice

It's well worth doing it that way to save £120 a year

try going via moneysupermarket.  Same deal, the link takes you to the O2 website and you can upgrade to the new tariff - dont even need to SIM swap.  Just enter your o2 details at the basket stage.   I just done the same on an other tariff.  Your move will happened over night, and you will receives text updates.  You can also change/add your spend cap at the same time.
