I'm guessing there will be panic stations at o2 and a nonsensical statement issued, designed to make us feel that it is ourselves who need to update our own security.

I hope not. They tried that last time if I remember? Thing is there are many computer savvy people on this forum (not me) who could kick that sort of statement out of the ballpark....
With that in mind I know who I would believe

Hello,
We had applied for the SIMs online. I have all the e-mails from the account linking fiasco, which is how I can date this data from Nov 2009 (the phishing e-mail had same wrong info - bits of my data and bits of partners).

I've just received the same email.
I know that there has been an issue with VAT as I've claimed it back from EE, however this email relates to Oct 13 - Oct 14 and I wasn't with o2 at that time.
Very concerned as to the level of information on the email. I've run two lots of in depth security scans on my PC and it's fine, nothing suspicious at all.
I've only been with o2 for 2 months and have already been overcharged the first month so if this is there security breach and haven't let customers know I will be even less impressed than I am now.
