Stopping spam premium messages

How do I stop random companies sending unsolicited premium rate messages to my mobile.

I get told by agents I must have inadvertently signed up to get 'horse race betting tips' but I know i did not.

I have received 2 SMS and it cost a further charge to send a STOP message.

This can't be right, surely.

As this advice came from you initially, I wasn't aware customer services could REFUSE to place the following two bars on a customers account when requested? They have refused with @allancsn

• Bar all Direct to Bill Debits
• Premium Bar (calls to premium numbers, 090, 070 etc.)
