I have an older O2 contract and want to add a spend cap to protect me while travelling abroad. Apparently the only way they will let me do this is to upgrade which seems to be a very poor business practice. Is there any way around this block ?

Not if your tariff is pre October 2018.

Spend caps can only be added post that date.

As advised by O2, you need to upgrade your tariff to do so.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

You can add a spend cap by following instructions here and do it at any time.

Guide: Spend caps on O2

If you call O2 on 202 or 0344 809 0202 or use O2's social media to help by messaging them on Facebook (https://o2uk.co/O2CFB) , Twitter ( https://o2uk.co/O2CTW) or Instagram (https://o2uk.co/O2CIG) , they should be able to help you with this.
