So O2 have discontinued the Serra AND Xperia?

With no announcement the Xperia has been withdrawn from the website and the thread on here regarding it deleted.

It appears the Serra may be experiencing the same fate according to others on this forum - viewtopic.php?t=11742

I'm well annoyed as these were the only two handsets I would even consider upgrading to. My current phone (XDA Mini S) is on its last legs and I need a slide out keyboard.

I can't believe O2 are doing this on the quiet and hoping no one would realise. I'm most disappointed - it may be time for me to start looking elsewhere.

So O2 have discontinued the Serra AND Xperia?

I spoke with a lovely lady at O2 this evening and she confirmed that the Xperia is out of stock and that's why it has been removed from the site temporarily. She also told me that O2 are expecting it back in stock w/c 15/12/08 ... next week.

So O2 have discontinued the Serra AND Xperia?

I have listed few deals in the O2 forums below:

1. Line rental is now only costing us £28pm, plus web bolt on charges. That's for 600 minutes, 250 txts and of course things like "Any O2" thrown in. So I think we have a good deal with them for 12 months contract. Or may be Person in Retention was having a jolly day when I called, and/or may be Business contracts are given different priorities. Free phone.

2. Phone for £75, £35 tariff for £20 (I do not need loads of minutes, I need unlimited data more)

3. I managed to get an 18 month contract, £24.50 a month with 800 mins, 1000 texts and the unlimited web bolt on and the Xperia for £100, works out pretty well over the 18 months.

I was previously on 200 mins 500 texts for just a little over £20 a month. Pretty good result (although it took 45 mins on the phone with a 26 min wait to get through to retentions!).

4. Spoke to retentions and was offered:
Xperia X1 (with 4gb memory card)
1200 mins
1000 texts
unlimited web
£49.99 for the handset (added to next bill)
£27 a month on an 18 month contract.

5. Heres what i got:
£45 p/m tariff - 1200 mins 1000 texts Unlimited web - 40% discount, so £27 p/m, and paid £50 for phone. Been with o2 only for around 3-4 years max, average spend of around £30p/m.
Originally spoke to O2 upgrade dept, and they wouldn't budge so i asked to speak to retentions, who straight away offered me this deal to stay. Well pleased .
I probably could have haggled for more, but didn't want to take the mick.

6. woot!
£50 for handset
1000 txt, 1000 mins, unlimited internet for £27.50 (40% off £45 tarrif)
the 40% off is for life! eg as long as i want!
for reference i was a select customer before the change and rang on 402.

7. £45p/m reduced to £27p/m and i get 1200 mins 1000 text free web bolt on and i pay £49.99 for the handset.

8. I called just after 4pm today and managed to get an X1 for £30 a month (for the £45 a month tariff) on an 18 month contract for only £49.99 up front. I was an o2 Select customer before they started the Priority Club thing, so that probably helped.
It all seems a bit too good to be true though, so I'll have to check when the phone arrives!

10. Not really good IMO, £49.99 for phone, £27.50pm, 1200 mins, 1000 text, choice of bolt on (e.g. free o2 to o2, unlimited web etc) is miles better than the above.
For me, that is the best deal you will find for the X1 from anyone.

11. i ordered the x1 this morning and got £35pm 600mins 500 txts web bolt on and phone for £49.99.
then this afternoon i phoned up to cancel saying i had been offered a better deal (bs).
After going through to retensions got offered:
45pm tariff discounted for 18mnt bringing it down to £30pm
1200mins
1000 txts
any bolt on free (went for web)
phone cost £49.99
should have the phone 2morrow/thursday
to be honest i have been waiting all year for a new phone and was holding out for the nokia n85. since the x1 looked a decent phone decided to go for that.seeing as o2 have nothing but the iphone!
i was on a 30pm contract which expired in jan 08. 500mins and 500txts.
and im a select customer also, so i guess that helped!
so i think i got a fairly decent deal in the end!

Please be aware that you can ask for a deal even if the x1 is out of stock. I have got one (not a good one...).

we have plenty of each here in n. ireland.

I have to pay £100 for the x1, but thats what i get for being staff, none of this " i'll leave you for another network" carryon!
