If you can, try your SIM in another phone, if it works then, your phone is faulty, if not you'll need a new SIM which your local O2 shop can sort out for you for free .
If you don't have access to another phone, you can ask in your local O2 shop to test it for you too.

What phone do you have?
Try taking out the sim, clean and replace, then reboot the phone.
