Sim swap problem

Hi, so I swapped my mobile number from a sim card to a nano card or whatever they're called so I could use it in a sony xperia m. 

 

When I go to settings>about phone>status it shows a mobile number, but one completely different to the number I swapped.

 

Just to clarify, the sim swap was successful and my mobile number works on the nano sim, but in the settings it's not coming up as that mobile number but a completely different one. 

 

What is this and how do I fix it? I tried online help and they told me to ring 202 and speak to the techs, but I would prefer not to call to be honest but if I have to then fair enough, lol.

The number displayed in settings is the number written to the sim card. It is not the number that is in use as this was swapped when you did the sim swap.
The only way to change it is to put your sim in another phone that allows you to write to the protected area of the sim that holds the number (old Nokia's and Sony Ericsson's etc).
You cannot write to the sim in an android phone.
BTW, it makes absolutely no difference to the operation of the phone or any phone services.

How do you know that the sim swap is complete?  Sim swaps generally take 24 hours to complete and you know when it is done as the old sim will have no service.

Because I did it a few weeks ago now and I only just noticed this in the settings.  I can text, recieve calls, use data, all of that, just the number in the settings isn't the same number I have, if that makes sense? It's so strange, never had this happen before, but then again it's my first time doing a sim swap.

Have you got the latest software on the phone?

 

I know that some phones allow you to change the number yourself - do you have an option in your settings to allow you to manually change the number?

If that does not help then it may be an issue with your sim not completely swapping over.

It's not a problem just that on modern phones you can't always change the number of a new sim once installed.

 

Putting the sim back in an old Sony would allow you to edit it, but it won't cause any problems left as it is.
