It appears that the sim only prices for existing customers are higher (through upgrade) than for new customers (through o2 website). If that’s correct then surely that’s poor form.

No, not correct.

Everyone pays the same.

Make sure you are looking at upgrades and not tariff change.

Cheaper on uswitch than direct to o2. Eg 12 month 10gb per month is £8 on uswitch and £17 direct or am I missing something ?

U Switch isn't O2.

They are discounting the cost to generate sales.

Everyone who buys elsewhere will pay the elsewhere prices.
