Sim Swap

Good Evening,

I have recently initiated a sim swap to retain my existing mobile number on a new Lumia 710 Smart Phone. The number and credit has been successfully transferred but I had expected that, as a swap is by definition a 2 way transaction. I had assumed that the original Smart Phone number would be transferred to the old mobile. Is it possible to establish if that reverse transfer has taken place? I assume that one would have to contact O2 support to establish whether this has happened.

Any comment would be gratefully received.

When a sim swap is done the old sim gets disconnected, it's just a number transfer.

the old number transfers to the new sim card and overrides the number on the new sim. you can only keep one number

A sim-swap is a one way transaction I'm afraid. Your existing number is transferred to a different sim card, no data is retained and moved from the new card.

In which case it is not a 'swap' it is a one way transfer!

Essentially, that's correct, but as stated in an earlier post, you can only have one number. That's what you've paid for. Is there a point you're trying to make?

If we're being pedantic, technically you're just swapping your number from one SIM to another - hence the name. Perhaps they should rename it "SIM-transfer" but regardless the fact remains you only transfer your number to a new SIM, nothing is transferred back to the old one.
