I am currently paying £20 a month for a sim only deal. Is this a contract? Do I need to give notice to leave? If i leave early (it started in May 2020) will I need to pay a fee?

Yes it's a contract and you have to pay to the end.

If you came off refresh, as a workaround, you can upgrade to a 30 day sim and then give notice, but this only works if you were prebviously on refresh.
