Severe signal degredation! Emergency calls only!

Over the past couple of weeks I have noticed a severe degredation in the signal quality in Carnoustie, Angus.

Since moving here in July last year I have consistently had a full signal and constant Edge internet connection, sadly this has changed to two bars max and frequently no signal at all!  I have missed many calls due to people not being able to get through, sending texts is slow and these often don't send.

I can confirm I have tried another network's SIM, this gives me full signal and consistent 3G internet so it cannot be my phone. When I take my phone into Dundee I get a full signal.  I have checked your service status often and there is never anything mentioned. Nothing has changed in my household to indicate anything interfering with my signal.  I have cleaned my SIM, all of this to no avail.  I can only conclude that the issue lies with the Mast(s) here.

The coverage checker claims the following:

"Making calls, sending texts, using email on your phone.

Good indoors and outdoors."

I understand this can vary, but surely not to this extent. My phone is useless currently.

We know how frustrating things like this can be.

Fingers crossed things settle as quickly as possible for you.

It was fixed for me for a time where I had a constant 4 bars and edge connection but unfortunately sometime yesterday afternoon/evening (I hadn't looked at my phone much so don't know exactly sorry) the problem returned. I am currently running at no bars at all.

I just checked the My Network app and when I click "live status" it shows no problems. I have followed the instructions in the other thread and I'm getting a full signal on another network.

I will report the mast again via the app but I'm curious as to what the problem is exactly and if it's likely to be a problem often as this has been going on for a little while now. I realise that being on PAYG I have the luxury of swapping networks at any time, but I like the plan I'm on and would rather not change.

If there is any update on this I'd really appreciate it. Our town has a pop of approx 12K so I can imagine a fair few people being affected along with the many visitors to our town.

I would check with my neighbours however I live in an area heavily populated by people 60+. Now I'm not ageist and I'm sure there are many people 60+ that use mobiles but not my neighbours. Great people (I know most) just not very technology minded. Next door neighbour is in her late 90s. So checking with them isn't an option unfortunately slight_smile

It appears that writing replies on my phone is a bad idea as I've accidently clicked the accept as solution button and I can't find a way to undo this.

Not sure if this will get looked at now but I just wanted to add that it appears the My Network mast status has been updated to correctly show the fault. I would still really appreciate it if someone could find the causes behind these problems of it being ok then breaking down again so I know if it's worth my time topping up again with O2 for the moment as my monthly anniversary is soon.

Thanks!

My feelings would be a mast upgrade going on in preparation for 4G or some other network improvements.
Unfortunately we won't be told any more than is showing on the status pages.

I'm not sure they would do that in this small town as the city 10 miles away with a pop of 145K doesn't have 4G.

I doubt us here with 12K would be a high enough priority for O2 at the moment but then again I have no idea how these work. The problem has been going on for at least week though on and off.

I was hoping that the person who replied in page 1 who said they would see what they could find out (or someone similar) would reply again.
