Get your iPhone 5 unlocked using your current sim before you sell the phone on.

Providing the iPhone 4 is unlocked and open for use on O2 you will be fine to use it.

With regards to your sold one, its yours to sell so the buyer would be able to use their sim in it (assuming their on O2 also)

If its not unlocked then only someone with an O2 SIM card can use it as it will be locked to O2

The IMEI cannot be changed. It's what identifies the phone. If the phone isn't unlocked it can only be used with an O2 sim.

Unlocking enables the phone to be used with any network. If you didn't unlock it you would be restricted to buyers wanting to use O2 network. There is no need, nor is it possible, to change the IMEI number.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

What contract did you take out?

If on o2 refresh you cannot sell the handset until the credit agreement is paid.

If non refresh then the other responses are correct

iPhone 11 Pro 256gb on unlimited data
iPad Pro 12.9” 2020 256gb refresh o2 family discount
Apple Watch series 4
My first mobile was in 1995 a CM-R111 from sony on Cellnet.
