Agree with that. I go to Spain frequently and if Movistar goes down ...my Note 3 connects to Vodafone ES or Orange ES. I never have to do a manual search..

Sounds like a faulty phone to be honest. Get it sent to Samsung, please don't let o2's repairers loose on it it. As said, in the meantime you need to manually connect to a network.
