I'm out of contract with my old provider (Virgin media) and I've just got a new contract with o2. Trying to cancel the VM contract is becoming a pain and they are so unhelpful.

Do I need a STAC code to do this and give to o2 or is there something else I need to do.

@Rob88

As soon as you give your PAC to O2, it should have cancelled your contract with VM.

It should then generate a final bill from VM.

Ah thanks. I've never done this before but once I receive a STAC code, how to I give this to o2?

New phone/number arriving today. Looking forward to coming to a company who knows what they are doing.

@Rob88

If you want to keep your number you needed a PAC not a STAC.

https://www.o2.co.uk/help/phones-sims-and-devices/how-to-keep-your-mobile-number

Before we can transfer your number, we'll need your PAC code. This is made up of three letters and six numbers. You can get this from your current provider and it will be valid for 30 days.

You can give us your PAC code when you order your new O2 connection or at any time afterwards. Once you’ve given us your PAC code you’ll switch to our network within one working day (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, excluding bank holidays). If we receive your code after 5pm, you’ll switch within two working days. If you provide your PAC code at the weekend, you’ll switch on the following Tuesday.

If you want to switch to O2 at a later date, just contact us with your PAC code when you’re ready to switch. You can give us your PAC code online.Or call us on 202 free from your O2 phone, on 0344 809 0202 from any other phone, or visit an O2 store. PAC codes are only valid for 30 days, but if yours expires, don’t worry – you can always request a new one.

If you don't want to keep your number, then you need a STAC from Virgin. It shows you how in this link

https://www.virginmedia.com/help/virgin-mobile-how-do-i-cancel-my-contract

Edited to add VM info

I want the new number O2 have given me, so when I request a STAC from VM, do I need to do the same process as what you have provided me in the last message?

Once I receive phone today, and once I get a STAC code, just phone 202? Sorry for all the questions. It's stressing me out as VM were so unhelpful

Yes just contact O2 with your STAC code. All numbers in these guides Guide: Coronavirus Community Help and Support  and Guide: How to find help & contact O2
