I have recently joined O2 from EE and have transfered my EE phone number to O2.  since the transfer I have not been able to receive messages other than O2 test messages and when I send a message the recipient gets the message but from the old O2 phone number that came with the SIM.  I have been on live chat 3 times now since last week and this is still not resolved.  I am using a Huawei P20 Pro android phone.

@O2Emma

In our community guide here Guide: Text Message Tips (not sent or received) the message centre number is included.

The other two tips i.e.

1)Try sending a txt to own number .

2)Try sim in another phone if possible

...aren't included, so maybe these should be added?

Also could you tell me if @davidt99's issue is resolved and if so, what was causing the problem?

@Cleoriff yeah deffo add the 2 extra tips in guide grin

Sending a txt to own number helps identify if network issue or not .

Trying sim in another phone helps identify if its a sim or phone issue.

Yes issue is resolved by using steps above appears to be a phone issue.

Yes @Cleoriff it is a good guide thou @jonsie done a good job with it.grin

Some other things that could be added are

International txt or premium short codes can be blocked by spam/sms screening on settings in phone mainly android devices have this.

Spend cap can prevent international or premium txt (this also stops picture messages )

Iphone users if not able to send txt to check in message settings have option sms turned on.

Not receiving txt from banks/uber etc this will need raising to o2 advisors.

I found the solution to my problem. Within the messenger app there is an setting called Chat features. It looks like this is something Google provide as standard. On my Huawei the setting showed as connected with the original O2 sim number configured. I turned off Chat features and the recipients to my text messages received them correctly identified as coming from me. I turned the setting back on and after a short while the setting showed as "connected" with the correct phone number displayed. Not sure if this is an Android setting but I am on Android 10.
