SMS - 30 Character Limit

Hi, I'm a little confused with the character limit on SMSs. I'm only able to send SMSs with only 30 characters, anything more and it just won't send, and gives a "Couldn't send message" error.

I have tried with different phones and tried changing some relevant settings etc., but nothing seems to make the SMSs work with the usual 160 character limit.

Has anyone on this community had this or similar issue? If so, any steps to resolve would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Could try the following:

Verify message settings. (For customers on Pay & Go tariffs, your message centre number is +447802092035. For all other O2 customers, pay Monthly tariffs, your message centre number is +447802000332.)

Clear message app cache.

Disable Wi-Fi, enable mobile data.

Test with a different recipient.

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

Thanks again, @Enlli. Yes, I've tried all of those, just checked that the message centre number is correct (pay-monthly tariff). Tried an EE sim on the same handset, that seems to work with more 30-character messages. Just when I put in the O2 sim, it goes back to 30.

I'm out of ideas.

Looks like talking to O2. Only problem is finding a competent agent

@KFM

You said in one of your other posts that another O2 sim worked? Maybe try changing the other sim for a new one?

It really sounds like a faulty sim?

Thanks @Cleoriff - funny you mention this - I literally just ordered a replacement SIM citing "Faulty SIM" as the reason for replacement. Hope the new sim will work smoothly!

First thing to do is try a new sim card

Take ID intoany O2 store and they will replace it for you

If you order from customer service your current sim will be disconnected leaving you without a working sim until the new one is delivered by RM
