SIM from iphone to android

My son is currently using a sim only pay monthly in an iphone 4s. I've bought him a Motorola G5 sim free for Christmas. Can I simply take the sim out of the iphone & stick it in the android phone & expect it to work or will I need a new sim? Do I need to notify O2 of the change to get different settings?

The swap will take place on Christmas day so I'm guessing my options for customer support/ getting a new sim are going to be a bit limited.

If it’s the same size, simply put it in the new Phone.
If not, get the new sim now and do the automated sim swap on Christmas Day.
Customer service are also working then if needed.

Yes the data bolt on needs changing by calling customer service or using live chat.

If it's a triple sim then push out the right size. You may find his present sim can be pushed out if necessary.

It depends if it’s on idata now or not.
iPhones will work on standard data in uk now so may not need changing.

The iphone does have data allowance although he doesn't use much. That was kind of what I wondered about though, whether sim were specific to a particular OS or whether they are easily swappable.

It’s a simple change if needed but not essential to other phone operations.

It's not sim specific it's phone specific but can only be done by customer service.
