My son is currently using a sim only pay monthly in an iphone 4s. I've bought him a Motorola G5 sim free for Christmas. Can I simply take the sim out of the iphone & stick it in the android phone & expect it to work or will I need a new sim? Do I need to notify O2 of the change to get different settings?
The swap will take place on Christmas day so I'm guessing my options for customer support/ getting a new sim are going to be a bit limited.

If it’s the same size, simply put it in the new Phone.
If not, get the new sim now and do the automated sim swap on Christmas Day.
Customer service are also working then if needed.

Ok thanks. I think I've a spare sim they sent me at some point & said to keep as a spare so that should suffice.

Yes the data bolt on needs changing by calling customer service or using live chat.

The iphone does have data allowance although he doesn't use much. That was kind of what I wondered about though, whether sim were specific to a particular OS or whether they are easily swappable.

It's not sim specific it's phone specific but can only be done by customer service.
